Australia (Continent and Country)

I use Australia resources for Kindergarten when studying Continents and in First Grade when studying Countries.

Kindergarten Goals:

- Be able to point out and name the Australian Continent on a map
- Be familiar with the term Outback
- Be able to Identify a Kangaroo
- Be able to Identify a Koala
- Make sure my student has heard about the Great Barrier Reef


1st Grade Goal

- All Kindergarten Goals
- Begin to understand the concept of opposite season's Australia's Summer is during our Winter. (a good example of this is that Australia's Christmas cards will picture Santa in a bathing suit)
- Introduce Australian Animals

  • Echidna
  • Dingo
  • Kookaburra
  • Platypus

- Recognize Landmarks and be able to name them

  • Uluru
  • Sydney Opera House
